The wonderful wikipedia defines a pixel as being “the smallest piece of information in a digital image”. Each element is in essence an integral “sample” of the whole. The word derives from a contraction of pix (picture) and el (element).
i have always demonstrated a little more of a deviation from the norm, than the others did. i tinkered around with a shortwave radio and a 35mm camera given to me by my dad when i was yay high. As far as i can recall, every thing i did was motivated by an urge to break free from a chained up life. The radio was subversive – i was often warned sternly to stop setting my antennae up outside and around the house by my loving grandparents. We all feared arrest. the camera, well, perhaps i figured i could one day capture the truth or perhaps merely the dreams and aspirations of the many people i saw, living virtually the same as me.
now i have broken free to an extent, i have come to see that life is lived mostly as in a dream. the moments we live are a contraction of our past and our futures. the way we witness the present is so often coloured by these two elements. it becomes almost impossible to capture and represent one moment of one person, to another. at best, we can hope to show another a tiny element of our own past in colours, intensity, form or theme. i have also physically broken free of one phase of my learning process, and attained a somewhat more independent existence. for now, i have access to a few things i have had to do without until now. i long ago, lost the 35mm and the radio broke. a few days ago, i was blessed to be able to buy a starting level DSLR (a Nikon D40). the inter net has replaced the radio some time ago now, and i blog concerning some current affairs as well as my family experiences out here on the Korean Peninsula.
